Jim L. Culpepper

Jim L. CulpepperJim L. Culpepper was born on April 19, 1944, in Houston, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1967 from the University of Houston, and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1971.

Mr. Culpepper is Board-certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the following areas of law:

  • Civil Trial Law, certified in 1984
  • Personal Injury Trial Law, certified in 1993
  • Commercial Real Estate Law, certified in 1983

Mr. Culpepper is currently admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, U.S. District Court, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas, and all Texas State Courts. He has been a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, continuously, since 1983. For the past 22 years he has been a member of the Pro Bono College, providing legal services without charge to those who can not pay.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation.

Mr. Culpepper represents plaintiffs to recover from injuries and losses sustained as a result of the negligence or fraud of others, claims based upon defective products, and other claims providing remedies for injured and damaged clients.

He is fluent in Spanish, and able to communicate fully in Spanish with clients who only speak Spanish.

Jim's wife of 33 years, Lana, passed away in February, 2006. Jim and Lana became members of the Katy Church of Christ in 1992. Jim preached for the Spanish speaking brethren at the Katy church from June, 1996 to December 31, 2008. Since January, 2009, Jim has been working with other Spanish speaking brethren to begin a Spanish speaking congregation, Spring Branch Iglesia de Cristo, in the Spring Branch area of Houston. Jim and Lana have worked for many years with the Spanish-speaking congregations of the churches of Christ in the Houston area. Mr. Culpepper is frequently invited to teach and preach in Spanish in the Spanish-speaking congregations.

Mr. Culpepper has been involved in a number of civic and charitable organizations. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Building Fund for The Houston Christian Institute, a school for inner-city young people operated by the Fifth Ward Church of Christ.
